The 7-0 Colts take on the 6-1 Patriots on the Sunday Night NFL stage in a matchup we've been waiting for all season. The Patriots enter as three-point favorites at home and they definitely have history on their side, but Indy was finally able to break through with an impressive 40-21 victory last season-the Colts' first win in seven tries against Tom Brady.
The Colts rush defense is the big question mark heading into this game. Indy's defensive unit is giving up 167.9 rush yards per game. However, the pass defense has been very impressive allowing just 167.6 yards per game. In looking at these numbers, New England's success this weekend will depend more on its ability to run the football than the right arm of Tom Brady.
Patriot History
New England has a solid rushing attack led by Laurence Maroney and Corey Dillon who combine for about 120 yards per game. What has to worry the Patriots is that Tom Brady has always been their knock out punch and the Colts aren't going to give Brady a chance to beat them.
One thing that New England knows they are going to have to do is come up with some big defensive plays. Peyton Manning will lead the Colts on scoring Drives all game long if the New England isn't able to come up with any turnovers. Your defensive numbers don't matter when you are playing the Colts. Denver found that out last week when Manning hit them up for 34 points.
On paper, New England has the better running game, the better defense, home field advantage, and history on its side. But Indianapolis has the best quarterback in football who is the best in the game at reading blitzes and calling automatics at the line of scrimmage. Indy also got a big monkey off its back with a win last season and we must remember that the Colts are the undefeated team in this matchup beating a Denver team last week on the road which shut down the Pats in New England.
Dave Price has put in hours of research on this matchup weighing every factor from individual player matchups to weather conditions, which is why he's the number 1 ranked NFL Handicapper in the world, and he has found which team has the overwhelming edge in Sunday Night's big game. This one isn't as close as it appears on paper. Climb on board with Dave Price for the easiest winner of the entire NFL season!
