John Harvard's own tolerance for difference-in people, in ideas, in issues and situations-is very apparent in the way he lived his life and in the classical writers he chose to emulate and to admire the most. By the time he finished his studies at Cambridge University, he was totally convinced that education's greatest role should be to teach people how to be tolerant of one another; never to allow their emotions to over rule the wisdom of their actions. And he had great hopes that the importance of tolerance among men would be a fundamental part of all learning in the new England, the land of hope. This story shows how John Harvard believed in and wanted this attitude for tolerance in education so much that on his death bed he suddenly decided to offer his sizeable and completely unexpected gift "to the new colledge", convinced that his bequest would help start the new college in the new land-sooner!

±1±: Best Buy Here are the first comic plays written in America. Originally published in 1798, they were probably written in the 1770's. Both The Patriot and The Candidates provide fascinating first hand insights into early American culture, and commentary on basic issues of government which is still as relevant today as it was duriong the revolution.

The Pariot focuses on the question of what true loyalty to one's country requires in wartime. Situated in the midst of the revolution, two true patriots - accused of Toryism - face a crowd of overzealous simpletons, hypocrites, secret tories, and men who use the war for personal gain. Will the patriots receive justice in such hands? Will their patriotism be rewarded or will they be ostracized?

The Candidates describes a Virginia election for the House of Burgesses in the early 1770's, and was intended to mock corrupt candidates who attempted to gain voted they do not deserve. Munford pits two noble candidates against vain men, drunkards, and simple minded fools who dare to run for office. Find out what the electorate thinks of theses candidates!

±1±: Best Buy The Three Mentors is an exceptionally good book. It is amazing how Theodore Harris (author) tracks his life through the words of this book. I enjoyed reading about his childhood, life in and out of the service, and trials and triumphs in adulthood. It is amazing how the three mentors (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Ronald Reagan, and John Wayne) that he mentions tremendously impacted his life. on Sale!
